This problem happened to me before, and I fixed it. Now it happens again, and I forgot what the solutions was.
So I better write something about it, for my own reference – and hopefully you will benefit from it too.
WordPress Problem
Whenever I try to access my blog’s home page, it redirects me to an inner page. Can’t get around it, and therefore: can’t see my home page. Nor can my website visitors, or the search engines.
A major issue…
Plugin Solution
After researching online a bit, I found this post called “What’s wrong with the WordPress Redirection Plugin?” – Posted on August 17, 2010 by IT (archived link). And yes, it provided me with the solution.
So, the Redirects plugin is broken.
But the solution to these faulty home page redirects:
Go to Tools –> Redirection –> Groups –> click “edit group” to the right of “Modified Post” –> uncheck the Enabled box and save it.
click “edit group” to the right of “Modified Post”
uncheck the Enabled box and save it
And after I made this change…voila! I could see my home page again!
Thanx, IT!

NOTE:
I just found out that it looks like the plugin developer fixed it; the change log for release 2.1.29 (Sep 18, 2010) according to the WordPress Plugin Directory mentions:
>> Fix problem with custom post types auto-redirecting (click on ‘groups’ and then ‘modified posts’ and clear any entries for ‘/’ from your list)

Thanks for helping me solve this wordpress problem!
Well, if the developer fixed it (see Note in red above), then a new WordPress update wrecked it again.
Just got this same problem after upgrading to WP 3.1 – thanks to this post I can access my normal home page again! 🙂
Thanks! This solution fixes the challenge i’ve had with an inaccessible homepage.
