Web Optimization Starts With You

Web Optimization Starts With You

Having a good website can be very beneficial for your company or business. But what makes a website good? The answer is surprisingly simple: it should be easy to use. Less frustration and more satisfaction for your visitors will mean a better chance that you will see them again.

Honest Web Optimization Feedback

Therefore, look at your own website through the eyes of a user. Ask a friend or colleague for some honest feedback or, even better, get an objective evaluation by an Internet consultant specializing in web optimization.

What do you think is important when you visit a website?

  • Is the content easy to read? Can people adjust the font size when they find the letters too small or too large?
  • Do the pages download quickly enough? An amazing amount of people are still on dial up…
  • Is the contact information easy to find? Does it look trustworthy?
  • Does the site have a site map? Site search? Bread crumb trail?

50% of potential sales from a site are lost because people can’t find what they need.
– Forrester Research

If these things are important to you, they are likely also important to your website visitors. So, how do these questions apply to YOUR website? If you can answer the questions above with “yes” (“my content is easy to read” etc.), chances are that your visitors will also like what they see. This means: longer time spent per page and per visit, and a higher percentage of conversions from browser to customer.

[ If there were only not such a thing as a “blind spot” ;o) Maybe you should ask someone else to provide the answers to the questions above to you.]

If your website falls behind in some of these areas, proper web page optimization may not be a luxury. First cause of action, though, is finding some honest feedback about your site.

Web Optimization = Happy Visitors

Of course there are more factors that contribute to a good website. But making it a pleasurable experience for your visitors might be the most important one.
